'Artists at the Biennales 1900-1960': exhibition at the Bishop's Palace of Portogruaro

From December 13, 2025 to April 12, 2026, the Bishop's Palace of Portogruaro will host the art exhibition 'Artists at the Biennales 1900-1960', an unmissable event for art enthusiasts and those looking for exhibitions and cultural events in the Veneto region.

Curated by Stefano Cecchetto, the exhibition traces the first fifty years of the Venice Biennale, highlighting how Venice became an international reference point for art. The exhibition is divided into three thematic sections:

• Emblems from the New Vedutism (1900-1920): the Venetian landscape between the 19th and 20th centuries with Ciardi, Tito, Nono, Milesi, Fragiacomo and the protagonists of the Burano School such as Rossi, Moggioli and Semeghini.
  
  
• The Biennales from the 1920s to the 1940s: The Great Turning Point. Italian artists dialogue with the international avant-garde thanks to Margherita Sarfatti's critical contribution. Among the main names: Emma and Beppe Ciardi, Casorati, de Pisis, Sironi and Zoran Music.
  
  
• The avant-garde (1940-1950): movements such as the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti and Spatialism emerged after the Second World War, with artists such as Afro, Tancredi, Pizzinato, Vedova, de Chirico and Santomaso.

The exhibition includes about 100 works, organised in thematic rooms that show affinities and differences between pictorial languages, offering a complete overview of the evolution of Italian and international art between the late 19th and mid-20th century.

Christmas, 1 January and Mondays (special openings by appointment).
